On August 1, my Uncle got married. In about April we were discussing their wedding plans, and Aunt Janet described what she wanted in a wedding cake. I told her that sounded pretty simple and she asked if I'd like to do the cake. The wedding was about four days after I got home from school, so it was a little crazy and I was very busy.
The cake was a three tiered white square cake. The top and bottom tier were filled with strawberry cream and the middle layer was a vanilla filling. The cakes were frosted with vanilla buttercream and then covered in a white fondant.

Camoflauge Hunter Cake
This cake was made as a birthday present for my brother-in-law whose birthday happens to land on the fourth of July. He loves hunting and such, so that is what inspired the camoflauge design.
The day of we went to Bear World and found these figurines that we thought would be great to finish off the cake.

Lillies and Roses Wedding Cake
December 2008, my brother got married. They decided they wanted cheesecake for their Washington reception and their wedding planner asked if I would make flowers to decorate the cake.
The blue roses are made from royal icing and the lillies are made out of fondant.

Christmas Tree Cake
For my final in my cake decorating class, since we were nearing Christmas time, my brother gave me the suggestion of doing a 3 dimensional Christmas tree and this is my final product.
We worked on these finals for a couple weeks, with Thanksgiving break breaking up our time, so I chose to work with rice crispy cakes. It is a four layer cake, one for the trunk and the other three make up the rest of the tree.
In this cake I used all the different mediums that we worked with during our class. The trunk, border of the tree skirt, garlands, and texture on the angel's dress were buttercream. Most of the angel and the tree skirt were made from fondant. All of the needles, bows, snoflakes, and the angel's wings were made from royal icing.

Flowers and Butterflies Cake
Here is my first cake using royal icing flowers and butterflies although the cake is actually frosten in buttercream!
The butterflies came out really neat! They were really fun to create and the cake was lots of fun to decorate.

Raindrops and Roses Cake
This was my first fondant cake that I did in my cake decorating class. My design was inspired by the fact that I was missing the Washington rain, so I tried to make it look as though rain drops were falling on my cake. It was a chocolate cake with buttercream filling and a homemade fondant recipe.
The skills this cake features are fondant roses, inlays, and a twisted fondant rope.

Turtles and Flowered Cakes
In my BYU-Idaho cake decorating class, we were instructed to come up with our own designs for our first two cakes. This is what I came up with.
This was my very first cake where we were given specific requirements that needed to be included on our cake. I really like the way that I was able to get the icing nice and smooth and the border fairly even for a first attempt.
This was a practice cake that I made for my brother and sister-in-law who were pregnant. My brother always joked when we asked if it was a boy or a girl that it was going to be a turtle, so this was specially made for them. I thought the turtles came out really cute on this cake.
